CHOREOGRAPHY & CASTING

About Amy.

Get to Know Amy.

For Amy Wright, choreography is a powerful form of storytelling. A choreographer, director, casting director and producer with more than 30 years of experience, she combines creative vision, an eye for talent and decades of experience on set and stage. Her work spans film, television, commercials, theatre and international tours, bringing performances to life across diverse creative platforms.

From Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak to The Boys and Gen V, Amy’s credits span a remarkable range of genres. Her screen work includes The Umbrella Academy, What We Do in the Shadows, Welcome to Derry, The Testaments, Twisted Metal, Adults and Overcompensating, alongside films such as Grey Gardens and The Time Traveler’s Wife. She has also choreographed more than 85 national and international commercials.

At the heart of Amy’s career is The Next Step. Across ten seasons and more than 650 dance numbers, she has helped shape the franchise as producer, series choreographer and casting director. Her producing work includes two BAFTA Children’s Awards for Kids’ Vote Television in 2015 and 2016, along with four Canadian Screen Award nominations. She continues this leadership as Executive Producer, Choreographer and Casting Director of The Next Step: Cheer, which has completed two seasons and 40 episodes.

Amy brought The Next Step from screen to stage through Canadian tours, a sold-out world tour and The Next Step Live: The Movie. Her live-performance work includes international creative direction and choreography, as well as the opening routine for the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards. Her theatre credits include the Shaw Festival, London’s Grand Theatre and productions of Footloose, Grease and Les Misérables. Her work on Gen V earned a 2025 Astra Creative Arts TV Award nomination for Best Choreography.

Recognizing potential is equally central to Amy’s career. She has cast hundreds of performers for productions including Disney’s Zombies 3, Spellbound and The Next Step franchise. Whether assembling an ensemble or directing a performance, she draws on her experience in choreography, production and talent development.

Amy has collaborated with performers and filmmakers including Tom Hiddleston, Rachel McAdams, Drew Barrymore, Anthony Mackie, Jensen Ackles, Taika Waititi, Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman. She also mentors emerging performers and serves as a judge for the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. Throughout her career, one commitment remains constant: bringing talent, creative vision and storytelling together to create memorable performances.
